aes groupOn Thursday September 15 2016 a dedicated group of Avon Garden Club members gathered at Avondale Elementary School to weed and clean the area we planted in May of this year as well as the flower bed immediately in front of the Stratford Road entrance to the school.

Despite the heat the group persevered in digging out weeds and pruning plants that needed attention.  Christine McMahan amazed the group with her strength and effort to dig out a stubborn mulberry tree that had begun to take over the flower-bed.

Students, teachers, and staff members alike all thanked the group for our efforts.  In addition to Christine McMahan other volunteers included Elaine Mizell, Kathy Kingsbury, Kerry Quinn, Chris Kiefer, Jeanie Payne, Michele Spears, Toni Maher, Heather Ray, Peggy Burgess, and Bruce Johnston.  Former member Deanna McArthur also attended and worked diligently to beautify the area.
